Our Story
Founded by Dr. Manal Ghazzawi, a specialist pharmacist and recognized hepatitis advocate, KnowHep Foundation Sierra Leone emerged from the urgent need to address the hepatitis B epidemic in our country. As a proud member organization of the World Hepatitis Alliance, we work to bridge critical gaps in Sierra Leone's healthcare system.
Mission
A Sierra Leone free from viral hepatitis, where every person has access to prevention, testing, treatment, and care without discrimination.
Vision
To partner with other organisations to end viral hepatitis in Sierra Leone through evidence-based interventions, community engagement, healthcare capacity building, and policy advocacy.
The Challenges We Face
Non-profit Organisation's vision is to create a world where all people have equal access to education and healthcare. Our mission is to provide the necessary resources and support to underprivileged communities to improve their quality of life.
- 1 in 7 Sierra Leoneans infected with hepatitis B (over 1 million people)
- 90% of babies born to infected mothers will develop chronic infection without intervention
- Sierra Leone has not yet implemented the hepatitis B birth dose vaccine
- Widespread discrimination against people living with hepatitis B
- Limited access to testing, preventive and treatment services

Leadership Team
Dr. Manal Ghazzawi - Founder & CEO Specialist Pharmacist and recognized advocate for hepatitis elimination in Africa. Dr. Ghazzawi has co-chaired international summits and published research on hepatitis B in Sierra Leone. Her expertise spans clinical care, public health policy, and community engagement.
